Like most homes in San Diego we do not have a “mud room”. Probably because there is rarely any mud in our current drought-ridden state! While we may not have a need for a room unto itself to deal with messy boots and the likes, as a family of 5, we do need a place to neatly store and corral our stuff when coming home. Items such as car keys, purses, wallets and dog leashes.
This became crystal clear when I decided to freshen up our entryway bench with a new coat of paint. It was an entire week of “where are my car keys?” and “have you seen my sunglasses?” So today I’m sharing how we use an entryway bench to stay organized and keep the entrance of our home uncluttered.
The bench is located immediately when you enter our home, so for this Type A mama it needs to be functional AND pretty.
There are three drivers in the house now and having a place to immediately hang our car keys keeps them from getting misplaced and frantic searching when you are trying to get out the door to school or work.
And because it’s sunny San Diego, our sunglasses are always handy.
Even the pup’s leash, harness and collar are tucked away neatly, but right where they need to be when it’s walk time.
Our bench also has a great storage area for shoes that are used everyday without having to have them out in the open for everyone to see.
I purchased our bench almost 10 years ago from Target and it has held up well. The same one is no longer available, but I’ve linked some similar ones below. With its fresh coat of paint it should serve our family for another 10 years!
