Yes, it is February and yes, I am just now getting to my January Reading Re-cap. Life has been hectic friends! I could have just skipped January all together, but I really loved the book(s) that I read and wanted to share.
First up was Trouble Maker by Leah Remini.
I’ve been a fan of Leah Remini since her days on Saved by the Bell and the hubby and I used to watch King of Queens religiously when it was on the air. Now I am totally in love with her quirky family on their reality show It’s All Relative. So naturally I was super curious to hear more about her departure from Scientology. I’m not familiar with Scientology but let me just say, if even half of the stuff in her book is true, there is some crazy ass stuff going on inside the Church of Scientology! I was fascinated by her story so much that I did a little research (and by research I mean I Googled Scientology) and found a documentary that was recently released on HBO called Going Clear . The hubby and I watched it together and again, crazy-ass stuff! Bottom line is, if you’re a fan of Leah Remini and her witty, dry sense of humor you will love this book.
The next book that I read, but admittedly did not finish until this month (I told you, January was hectic) was Gluten is My Bitch by April Peveteaux. I received this book as a gift from my sweet son’s girlfriend (Thank you Alyssa!) and was literally laughing out loud!
If I haven’t mentioned it before, our family is not gluten-free because we want to be, but rather in support of our daughter who has an allergy to gluten. Trust me there is nothing my sweet little girl would love more than to bite into a gluten-filled donut (#glutenisdelicious). April too, is not gluten-free because she wants to be but rather because she has Celiac’s disease and her resentment at this fact is dealt with in hilarious stories and antidotes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her book and could sympathize with her many stories of being gluten-free in a gluten-loving world. The book also has fun recipes sprinkled throughout, which make it a keeper in my GF kitchen.
So that’s what I read in January. Part of my goals for January was to read 3 books and well that was just crazy ambitious for this mama. I’ll be lucky if I finish 1 book in February but it’s better than nothing right? I’d love to hear what you’re reading right now so comment above and let me know!
